As of 2009, the Formation Evaluation Society of Australia has initiated a "Distinguished Lectures" series, to bring landmark lectures to audiences across Australia.

The topic of the 2009 first Distinguished Lecture was Permeability, and the speaker was Martin Kennedy, a former Chief Petrophysicist for Woodside Energy, Enterprise Oil and Petro-Canada International, who has also worked in R&D, in government, and as a logging engineer.

The schedule of lectures was:

• 21 July 2009: Adelaide
• 22 July 2009: Sydney
• 23 July 2009: Melbourne (TBC)
• 24 July 2009: Queensland
