The FESAus Data Standards and Best Practices Group |
was started in 2006 specifically to address perceived chronic data-related bottlenecks and other vexing problems facing petrophysicists.
First we set out to define our objectives, our principles and our mission, acknowledging what makes us different.
The Group then initiated two different actions:
- A broad discussion involving the State Government (Department of Industry and Resources), the main oil and gas companies operating upstream in Western Australia, and members of our Group, to tackle a number of issues which the Group felt it could assist with, as independent advisors. The issues identified as being of particular priority were:
* Well log naming conventions: started in 2006, work is still on-going (2009) * Well / hole naming conventions: the workgroup submitted its recommendations to the Western Australia Department of Industry and Resources in June 2007. See them here.
- An online registry of "frequently asked questions" relating to Formation Evaluation, which we call PPPEDIA. It was later transformed into a Wikipedia project on Formation Evaluation.
Recent and current activities also include the development of a wiki for the SPWLA glossary, soon to be launched (mid-2009).
