BRIGGS COLOUR CUBING – A POWERFUL VISUALISATION TOOL FOR STRATIGRAPHIC CORRELATION AND FACIES TYPING

Effective visualisation of multi-dimensional data to understand their inter-relationships can often be challenging. Common techniques to visualise more than two sets of log attributes include X-Y-Z plots and ternary diagrams. Depth information is however lost in these forms of presentations. Methods to visualise multi-dimensional data in a depth sequence are lesser known but the ability to do so can be a powerful tool to enhance our comprehension and understanding of geological and petrophysical variations with depth.
An innovative method named Briggs colour cubing will be presented as a visualisation tool that can reveal relationships and vertical variations in three petrophysical attributes using a depth-based colour spectrum. Examples will be shown on how this method has been applied and how it has the potential to considerably enhance our ability to recognise and identify facies types and stratigraphic markers across wells.
About the Presenter:
Vanessa Lim is a Principal Petrophysicist with Woodside Energy Ltd and holds a Bachelor of Accounting from the University of Singapore and a Bachelor of Science (Geology and Geophysics)(Hons) from the University of Sydney. She has worked in the oil and gas industry for the past 22 years and has extensive experience in the evaluation of fields in the PNG fold belt, Yemen, North West Shelf of Australia, Myanmar Rakhine Basin and Senegal. She has a keen interest in well placement technology, thin bed and NMR analysis, and enjoys generating collaborative solutions which have application to Geoscience and Reservoir Engineering disciplines.
