Presented by Matthew Rigden, Well Placement Engineer, Schlumberger

The technique of placing a well according to real time geological information has developed since the introduction of directional drilling.  This talk will review the development of well placement techniques and technologies, from the original correlation and borehole image dip based methods, to the newer distance to boundary technologies, and to the latest reservoir mapping technologies.  Furthermore, we will look at the latest development on applying the deep EM measurements for looking ahead of the bit while drilling.  In addition, we will discuss how cross-discipline integration in well placement can be implemented in the future.
